Upon stepping into Café Kalawe, you’re immediately greeted by the delightful scent of freshly brewed coffee and the hum of friendly chatter. The ambiance is laid-back but undeniably welcoming. With its light wood furnishings, plants hanging from the ceiling, and soft lighting, the café feels like a mix of island charm and contemporary design. The staff is equally inviting, always making sure you feel right at home.

One of the highlights of Café Kalawe is its diverse menu. From hearty breakfasts to mouthwatering lunch specials, you’ll find options that cater to all tastes. Whether you're in the mood for a classic eggs and bacon combo or something a bit more unique, like their signature avocado toast with a local twist, there's no shortage of flavor-packed options. The breakfast burrito, for example, is a fan favorite-filled with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, cheese, and a zesty homemade salsa. It’s the perfect way to start your day or to fuel up after a morning of exploring the beautiful Kaneohe area.

For those looking for something more substantial, the café’s lunch menu doesn't disappoint. Fresh salads, grilled sandwiches, and hearty soups are all on offer. The grilled chicken sandwich, with a tangy aioli and perfectly toasted bread, stands out as a go-to option for lunch. It’s light yet filling, making it a perfect mid-day meal for those who want to stay energized without feeling sluggish. If you’re craving something on the lighter side, the kale and quinoa salad offers a refreshing option, topped with a lemon vinaigrette that adds just the right amount of zest.

In addition to their regular menu, Café Kalawe also shines when it comes to its specialty drinks. Their coffee selection, sourced locally, is exceptional. Whether you're a fan of a bold espresso or a frothy cappuccino, you’ll appreciate the rich flavors that come with each cup. The café also offers a variety of freshly squeezed juices, which are perfect for cooling off on a warm day. For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss their homemade pastries. The banana bread, in particular, has become quite the hit, served warm with just the right amount of sweetness.

The café is also a hit for those who enjoy a quiet spot to work or relax. With free Wi-Fi and plenty of space, it’s not uncommon to see people typing away on their laptops or enjoying a good book while sipping on a latte. • Always good at Cafe Kalawe. Plenty of parking, breakfast and lunch options from open to close. Chantilly pancakes and waffles are so good. They had some great looking desserts but we were too full from breakfast. Staff are so friendly too.

  • Craving native Hawaiian food, this could be your spot. Place was so busy for brunch that there were no parking spots available and wait time was 20 minutes. Live music, good service and amazing food made this a great experience! I had their coffee, eggs with hash browns and loco moco mini. Everything tasted amazing but I really liked their loco moco and coffee. I also tried their bread dessert and those were also good. Restrooms were clean and usable. Definitely recommend this place.

  • We came across this spot as we were leaving the botanical garden and are so glad we did! The food was excellent, with a great variety of options on the menu to choose from. The service was warm and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Everything from start to finish exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend!

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cafe Kalawa – A One-of-a-Kind Experience! Our experience at Cafe Kalawa was truly amazing! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted not just by the staff but by everyone in the restaurant — such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This well-known, family-based restaurant really stands out. Our waitress, Danny, provided excellent customer service and took such great care of our group of 16 kupunas. They get to choose where they want to eat, and this was the spot — and now we know why! The food was outstanding — from the surf and turf (with your choice of fried or garlic shrimp) to Kalbi ribs, steak, French toast, and Shoyu chicken. The prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. Overall, I’d give Cafe Kalawa a solid 100%! We’ll definitely be recommending this place to all our family and friends. Mahalo to the entire Cafe Kalawa team for such a wonderful and memorable dining experience

  • During Sunday they have live band playing in the background. I ordered mini loco moco and kim chee fried rice, and it’s delicious. I am feeling like most people dine in here are local. Recommend for visitors who want to try authentic local brunch.
